Transport in Gdansk — Tram, SKM, Bike & Taxi: A Practical Guide

Gdansk has one of the most efficient public transport systems in Poland — but to use it effectively, you need to know how. Below is everything you need to move around the city without stress or wasted time.

Airport → Gdansk city centre

Most convenient: bus 210 to Gdańsk Wrzeszcz SKM stop, then SKM to the city centre.
The journey takes about 35–45 minutes. Note: this requires two separate tickets (ZTM for the bus + a separate SKM ticket), so budget around 10–12 zł total—not one cheap ticket. Alternatively, Bolt or Uber from the airport costs 50–75 zł and goes directly to your address—often more economical than taxis when traveling with 2–3 people.

Note: Taxis from the airport (not via app) can charge 130–200 zł for the same route. Only use Bolt or Uber.

Tickets — how much and where

ZTM Gdańsk operates on zones and time:

ZTM Gdańsk fares change periodically — the above are reference points; always check the current price list at ztm.gda.pl before purchasing.

You can buy tickets in the „Jakdojade” app (we recommend it — the only app with up-to-date timetables and navigation for the Tricity), at ticket machines on stops, or at kiosks. The app also allows you to activate a ticket via your phone — the machine is only for paper tickets.

Pro tip: At these rates, the day pass (approx. 22 zł) becomes cost-effective from about 5 single trips (or 4 transfer trips) per day. For 2–3 days of sightseeing with a similar number of daily journeys, consider the three-day pass (72h, approx. 48 zł) — it pays off from around 10 single trips (or 8 transfer trips) over three days.

SKM — along the coast

Szybka Kolej Miejska (SKM) is a suburban train connecting Gdańsk Główny with Gdynia along the coast.
For guests of Mint Apartments, this mainly means:

• Gdańsk Główny → Sopot: 20 minutes, SKM ticket separately (~7 zł)
• Gdańsk Główny → Gdynia Główna: 35 minutes
• Oliwa (ZOO, cathedral, park): 10 minutes from the center

SKM runs every 15–20 minutes during peak times, and every 30 minutes in the evening. You must buy an SKM ticket separately from ZTM — you cannot transfer from a tram to SKM on the same ticket.

Trams – Which Lines, From Which Districts

Seaside Letnica (our apartments on Letnickiej and Starowiejskiej):
Line 7 and 8 connect Letnica with the city center. From Starowiejskiej to Targ Węglowy — about 15 minutes.
To Polsat Plus Arena: get off at Stadion stop and you’re there in 3 minutes.

Bastion Wałowa (Wałowa Street):
Stop Plac Trzech Krzyży — the heart of Gdańsk’s public transport. From here, you can reach anywhere. To Main Town: 5 minutes on foot. To Long Market: 7 minutes on foot or one tram stop. To Letnica: tram 7 or 8, about 15 minutes.

DOKI (Popiełuszki Street):
Nearest tram stops are Hucisko (lines 2, 3, 9, 10, 11), about 8–10 minutes walk. To Main Town: tram or on foot along the Motława river (~20 minutes walking route along the embankment — one of the most beautiful in Gdańsk).

Bike — Mevo

Mevo is a bike and electric scooter system in the Tri-City area.
Yellow bikes are available throughout the city center and coastal districts. Register via the Mevo app—first 20 minutes free with the basic plan. Perfect for:

• strolls along the Motława river
• trips to restaurants
• the coastal route from Letnica to Brzeźno and Sopot (35 km along the beach—the best route in the Tri-City)

Taxi and ride-sharing

Bolt and Uber operate throughout Gdansk — we recommend them over traditional taxi companies. Prices are transparent before booking.

• City center → Letnica: approx. 25–35 zł
• City center → Airport: approx. 50–70 zł
• DOKI → Old Town: approx. 10–15 zł (but walking is nicer — about 20 minutes)

Prices surge 2–3x after evening matches and concerts. Book in advance or walk — it’s just 5–7 minutes from Letnica to the tram line.

How to Plan Routes

Use Jakdojade—the only app that combines current ZTM and SKM data in one place.
Enter your starting and destination addresses, and you’ll get options with transfers. It works well.

Google Maps also works for transport in Gdansk, but it sometimes suggests outdated timetables—especially for SKM. Always double-check on the official SKM website or pkp-skm.pl.

Conveniently Close to Major Events

At Lechia matches, concerts, and trade fairs at AmberExpo:

• Trams heading toward Letnica will be packed 2 hours before and after the event
• Bolt/Uber surge pricing is 2–3x during these times — book at least one hour in advance
• Best solution: stay at our apartments in Letnica and walk.
  Seriously — 400–700 meters from the stadium is unbeatable by any transport.
